About TIP

The North Bay Building Trades “Trades Introduction Program (TIP)” is your gateway to a rewarding and prosperous career in the construction trades. Our program is designed to provide you with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and industry connections needed to succeed in the dynamic world of construction.

Why Choose TIP?

  • Hands-On Learning

TIP offers practical, real-world training that equips you with the skills employers demand.

  • Diverse Trades

Explore a wide range of trades, from carpentry and electrical work to plumbing and HVAC.

  • Certifications

Graduate with industry-recognized certifications that make you a competitive job candidate.

  • Paid Apprenticeships

Many TIP graduates transition directly into paid apprenticeships, jumpstarting their careers.

About Our Program

A major goal of North Bay Trades Introduction Program (TIP) is to prepare you for a state-registered apprenticeship in a trade of your choosing. It is not a requirement to take the North Bay TIP before applying to an apprenticeship, but it can be a great help to explore apprenticeship and prepare for your long-term success. You do not need trade experience for this free program; more important, is the interest and willingness to show up and work hard.

We start with an orientation meeting to explain and answer questions. In this meeting, we ask those wanting to move forward in the program to fill out a written application and be scheduled for an interview. If you are unsure or just exploring the trades, orientation is a great place to start.

Once accepted, you will be notified and will begin the 128 hour course which includes classwork, several guest speakers, some homework, and 1-2 field trips. Those completing the program will get certificates valued by the many apprenticeships that we have connections with.

During and after the class we will help you explore and apply for the apprenticeship program you are interested in. While we cannot guarantee placement in apprenticeship, we will work with you to help you become an apprentice, as many have before you.
